Once again we travelled through three countries, thus time on our way to
Krakow, Poland (the w is said like a soft v). Although it is exciting that we were in three different countries, the border crossing are boring! Mostly it is just like going through a toll gate, where you have an electronic sticker t pay the toll! In Poland there were two officers with a stop sign, but they just waved us through.
On the way north we stopped at a small service station, where a police officer tried to get €60 from our driver by "fining" him. Our driver was not fooled. We also stopped for lunch in a place that is a skiing area in winter.
Slovakia was a beautiful country, and I think worth visiting. I was bus sick, but the good thing about this was I sat up the front and saw everything.
The other roads we have travelled on so far have been wide fast highways, where the road goes straight through mountains. Where we are now is more like NZ roads, which are winding! The roads drove straight through all the towns.
When we arrived in Krakow we did a walking tour through the old town. It is beautiful. So so beautiful. We just had a quick walk through with our tour leader telling us some history, then headed to the hotel (a hotel but a step down from the quality of our last backpackers), which is a few kms away from the city centre.
We plan to return to the old town and explore it, explore a nearby castle, try to visit Schindlers factory and the Jewish quarter, then off to the salt mine in the evening.
